COLOUR

The leading colour experts have all spoken and it is clear to see a common theme amongst their predictions and influences for the coming year.

Dulux led the way with their assertion that 'Brave Ground' would be their colour of the year. A reassuring and earthy beige that reflects "the strength we can draw from nature, our growing desire to align more with the planet and looking towards the future".

Pantone bravely released two shades; their choices are Ultimate Grey and Illuminating (yellow) and are said to be "practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope."

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Biophilia comes from the Greek meaning "to love life". In design, biomimicry imitates forms, uses, colours, and more that are found in nature. We are seeing this more and more when it comes to design forms.

Many manufacturers are taking inspiration from the landscape to create innovative pieces that draw the outside in.

SUSTAINABLE MODERN DESIGN

A move towards the innovative use of recycled materials is proving popular and we are highly supportive of this; from terrazzo to wood to plastic.

Many furniture designers are looking to use recycled plastic which is not only practical but also enables the most interesting structures as it can be moulded as desired.

WICKER AND RATTAN

Woven furniture saw a rise in popularity last year and is not slowing down by any means.

As a sustainable material that is durable for both indoor and outdoor use it is a highly practical option in the current climate. The furniture made from these materials often makes a great statement which allows it to be a centrepiece in both a courtyard, or a lounge room. It offers a natural look which can be combined with other materials to soften the overall appearance and create a relaxing atmosphere.

Light wood is also having its moment - a move away from darkness, and even painted wood as natural reigns supreme.

JOYOUS APPEARANCES

Look out for bright colours and bold patterns. Designers are saying "no" to boring and attempting to bring joy through their work. Many people are becoming more attuned to little details and touches that offer a sense of personality. All-white is out, as are matching items; go big and bold.
